■ Message for Season 2, Event #5

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

2025–2026 marks the "implementation phase" for stablecoins.

Japan's first officially issued JPYC, pilot projects launched by the three megabanks, the initiation of Swift integration projects—a stablecoin revolution born in Japan is steadily advancing. The market has already reached approximately 25 trillion yen. This is no longer just "a type of cryptocurrency"—it's a new payment infrastructure operating 24/7/365.

At Shibuya Web3 University, we've hosted stablecoin-themed events every January. This is our third installment. Building on 35 previous events that have proven to be spaces for essential learning, we'll explore where the Web3 revolution of 2026 stands today.

Why do stablecoins hold the key to Web3 innovation?

The pioneer company that introduced Japan's first yen-backed stablecoin. A fintech firm advancing regulatory-compliant digital asset infrastructure through megabank partnerships. And Toyota Blockchain Lab, which aims to realize a traceable society, and KDDI, which serves as a "bridge" to the Web3 space by enabling users to exchange their everyday points for stablecoins.

From these four perspectives, we will envision a future where payments transform—and society transforms with them. When traceable value transfer becomes reality, the flow of goods and the flow of value integrate, bringing trust to every transaction.

At Shibuya Web3 University's 36th event, we'll envision the future together with all attendees.

■ Program

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

18:00–18:15 Opening

18:15–18:25 Session 1: "The JPYC Challenge—Japan's First Yen-Backed Stablecoin on Public Blockchain" (10 min)

How was JPYC, Japan's first yen-backed stablecoin, born and accepted by society? The background behind the bold choice of issuing on a public blockchain, technical challenges, regulatory responses, and future prospects. A pioneer's perspective on the conditions and possibilities for stablecoins to function as payment infrastructure.

18:25–18:35 Session 2: "The Future of Stablecoins Through Megabank Collaboration—Toward Regulatory-Compliant Digital Asset Infrastructure" (10 min)

MUFG, Mizuho, and SMBC—three megabanks have launched stablecoin pilot projects. Project Pax, a Swift integration by Progmat and Datachain. The cutting edge of bridging traditional financial infrastructure with blockchain technology. How to build new value exchange mechanisms while maintaining regulatory compliance. A financial institution's perspective on stablecoin social implementation.

18:35–18:45 Session 3: "Realizing a Traceable Society—Toyota Blockchain Lab's Vision for an Integrated Future of Goods and Value" (10 min)

What happens when stablecoins become mainstream? The vision of a "traceable society" championed by Toyota Blockchain Lab. By tracking the flow of goods on blockchain and integrating it with value transfer, transparency and trust emerge across the entire supply chain. A glimpse of the new social infrastructure enabled by Web3, being demonstrated within the massive ecosystem of the automotive industry. 18:45-18:55 Session 4: "The Frontier of Telecommunications × Web3 – KDDI's Vision for Integrating Points Economy and Stablecoins" (10 min)

As Web3 implementation advances, KDDI is leveraging its strengths as a telecommunications carrier to bridge the gap between the real economy and the digital economy. In November 2025, KDDI announced a partnership with HashPort, and in December, launched a service enabling users to convert Ponta Points into stablecoins. This initiative serves as a "bridge" connecting everyday consumer points to the Web3 space, representing a highly innovative approach to expanding the token economy. This session will explore the role and future outlook of Japanese companies at the intersection of telecommunications and stablecoins.

1855–19:35 Panel Discussion: "The Future of Web3 Powered by Stablecoins—A New Era of Payments, Traceability, and Trust" (40 min)

Discussion featuring all speakers Moderator: hajimex (President, Shibuya Web3 University)

Startups, megabanks, and Toyota Blockchain Lab, KDDI—a discussion exploring stablecoin possibilities from each perspective and the future beyond.

Stablecoin implementation as payment infrastructure is the first step toward Web3 permeating society. When traceable value transfer becomes reality, the flow of goods and value integrate, bringing transparency across supply chains. Trust emerges in every transaction.

Beyond just technology—regulatory trends, user perspectives, and the grand vision of a traceable society. How will this new infrastructure for value exchange and trust in the Web3 era be implemented in society? We'll envision the future together with all attendees.
